Ah yes. Bad video game fanbases. Moaning about the slightest of character changes, gameplay changes and graphical changes. Maybe not? Maybe if the gameplay goes online or if there’s a popular forum to go chat about the franchise and we have little kiddies who run the place like an anarchy throwing f-bombs in your ear. Maybe it might be that they are such bad video game fanbases that they could cause market crashes with their narrow interests and constant obnoxious reminder that it is a “god” of a franchise. So how are we deciding the worst?
Well for one, you also have to realize that mainstream does not equal bad. If anything, the Mario fanbase might make the top 15 BEST video game fanbases with its passion and straight forward love for Mario. You don’t go on Mario forums and see a bunch of moaning about Mario now do you? Also before we go down to the list, PLEASE know that I do not necessarly hold feelings against the game itself, there’s a couple of franchises I personally love that will be on this list but I feel like my love for it can be tampered with the kinds of discussions and ridiculous content that can come up. Also, EA Sports Games is cheating, because they stick to the games and not the internet thankfully. Please also note, that this only applies to the fans of a series who fits this description. I’m sure if you’re reading this, you’re probably one to do more research anyways and you are a more intelligent person of the fanbase, I just hope your comrades might get better.
What will get a said fanbase on the list?
- Alienation: The fanbase gets to a point where it alienates OTHER franchises or other options. It could even cause another video game market crash if it’s mainstream enough.
- Anti-Progressive: Complaining about things that actually HELP the game advance its mechanics, not open to said franchise keeping up with the times or increases in-depth/complexity or wanting franchise to not evolve. (Antonym of Elitism)
- Company Pride: An obnoxious love for publisher or developer who makes the game.
- Convoluted Fanfiction/Fangames/Modding: Can’t be happy with the game/story, creates/writes something new, but it gets to a point of excessiveness and to a point of being an annoyance. Can’t you just be happy with the already good product the original publisher/developer gave you? (Note, you can do good with this, I.E. Sonic 2D fangame outshining Sonic The Hedgehog 4)
- Cultural Prejudice: Biasness against Western or Eastern (most likely Japanese) type of setting within game or the origin of developers
- Dimensional-Prejudice: Fanbase has tendency to show unfair prejudice of 2D or 3D installments of a said franchise.
- Division of Fanbase: One basic element of a bad fanbase is a divided fanbase and what makes it worse is if it’s over the most ridiculous things.
- Elitism: My game has a bigger **** than your game! Or in broader terms, believing your game is for a superior gaming race. (Sometimes this can be healthy but it can cross the line) (Antonym of Anti-Progressive)
- Fanboyism/Fangirlism: Bigotry opinionated mess of fanbase!
- Hipster Ignorance: Fanbase has tendacy to only pay their mind to games likely considered niche, basically in a sense, will treat games like people and only donate their time to the poor, even if the mainstream games are fairly producing good products. (The smaller companies can produce better games than bigger companies, but blindly only helping smaller companies pushes the line of morality) (Antonym of Mainstream Ignorance)
- Internal Elitism: Builds elitists within the community of the game, to the point of alienating “noobs” or making it not fun for less skilled players.
- Line of Rejection: Unable to accept games even when they are good past a certain installment (or before a certain installment).
- Mainstream Ignorance: Fanbase has tendency to only pay their mind to games likely to be more relevant to general gaming masses. It’s like only giving the rich people a chance even when the poor can possibly pull it off better than the rich! (Antonym of Hipster Ignorance)
- Obnoxious Character Obsession: Obsessing over characters to an extent where it can get annoying
- Remake Begging: Begging for remakes of old installments, favoring the idea over brand new installments.
- Review Riots: It’s the end of the world when a game just misses that 9 with an 8.9 or doesn’t get a 10.
- Spin-Off Ignorance: Being a heavily supported franchise that is a watered down spin-off of what REALLY deserves more attention, this fanbase won’t even pay the original source any mind.
- Splash Damage: Being able to RUIN a game for better behaved fans of the franchise.
- Major: Huge quantity of selected negative quality
- Minor: Small (but still noticeable) Quantity of selected negative quality
Let’s Get The Ball Rolling!
P.S. All debuts will be listed by the date of the first region they were released in.
Update May 29th, 2012: I know it’s painfully obvious but I’ve actually received questions about chronological order. For clarity, the #15 fanbase is least awful, #1 is the most awful.
#15 – Mass Effect – Publisher(s): Electronic Arts (Current), Microsoft Studios Developer(s): BioWare Debut: November 20th, 2007 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Major Company Pride, Convoluted Fanfiction, Cultural Prejudice, Division of Fanbase, Major Elitism, Minor Mainstream Ignorance, Minor Review Riots, Minor Splash Damage
Oh darn! We’re getting controversal already. Yes, the Mass Effect fanbase is overall not very good. In fact it’s bad. The Mass Effect fanbase has been known to thump around the glory of Mass Effect, most notably Mass Effect 2. Does Mass Effect 2 deserve Game of the Year for 2010? I agree it totally does. Do I have to hear about it every 2 seconds? No. What also doesn’t help is the “Hamburger Helper” meme. Jeez, you can’t even give the developers of your own franchise a break, though Hamburger Helper is the result of the picture above. If you all don’t know, it’s turning Jennifer Helper’s name, a writer for BioWare into a mockery, it usually means they’re tired of certain lemony fanfiction quality romance. Ya know, romances that you make up yourself since you have choice throughout the game. I didn’t even get to the reception of Mass Effect 3′s ending! Daaaaang! This is historic! Sure, it may feel like BioWare has trolled you 5 years in the making with such a plot suicidal ending (because honestly, it is bad enough to ruin your love for the first 3 games) but, some people tend to forget that a lot of your arcs are wrapped up before the ending happens. All in all, I just happen to see way too much 4chan parody of Mass Effect and it’s pretty bad. The last thing I would like to mention is the argument that Mass Effect 1 feels more like a real RPG more than the other 2 games. Okay, that’s where the fan division lies and it even gets into arguments like “consolization” (making it more for console gamers), or some crap like that I don’t know, I’m usually off enjoying Mass Effect for how it is by this point. Don’t let this fanbase sway you, go play Mass Effect and enjoy it’s greatness, whiff in the scent of success! Just brace yourself for the conclusion of the trilogy.
#14 – Final Fantasy – Publisher(s): Square Enix, Nintendo, Sony Computer Entertainment Developer(s): Square Enix Debut: December 17th, 1987 (JP)

Quick Synopsis: Alienation, Major Company Pride, Major Convoluted Fanfiction, Cultural Prejudice, Dimensional-Prejudice, Division of Fanbase, Line of Rejection, Minor Mainstream Ignorance, Major Obnoxious Character Obsession, Major Remake Begging, Major Splash Damage.
The Final Fantasy fanbase is a mess. A huge mess. I happen to be in love with the Final Fantasy series (well at least the first 10 and tolerating 12). There used to be such a great following (aside from the Final Fantasy VII fanbase, which turned into trash very quickly) with Final Fantasy and now it’s a piece of crap pretty much since the merge with Square and Enix and the departure of Square employees such as Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy Creator), Tetsuya Takahashi (Xenogears creator) and many other important figures at what was formerly known as Squaresoft. Now the fanbase is so much of a mess that you can see in the above picture, Lightning Farron is having a seizure. I would have a seizure too if I had to walk a straight linear line for 40 hours straight with no sidequests. Poor Lightning, having to be modeled after a selfish demand of people wanting to relive Final Fantasy VII, being the female version Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII, the main protagonist of the game. That’s just one problem, the real problem is that there’s really 14 different fanbases with this game. One for each of the mainline Final Fantasy games. That’s a huge problem, it tops the Zelda franchise in division. The only thing holding Final Fantasy lower on this list is the fact that there are quite a few Final Fantasy fans that know when a Final Fantasy game is worth it or not and will try out other Japanese RPGs. Still on the other hand, you have the dimensionally prejudice Final Fantasy fans who only like the first 6 FFs or no FF starting with FF7 and on. You also have those MMO fanatics who only go on Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV, just great. You also have those very idiotic fans who play one game and claim to love the FF series after like 5 minutes of playing it. What a great fanbase. We also have the fact that people claim the Final Fantasy series is the only JRPG series worth playing, or at least any other Square Enix JRPG. What’s left now of the current product of Final Fantasy fans, it’s complete utter denial of Square Enix’s decline as publisher. Maybe there can be some hope when Final Fantasy XV comes out. Those Final Fantasy forums/chatrooms just still suck. Did I forget to mention the convoluted fanfiction and hentai (p*rn) these fans come up with? Never mind, it’s better I do forget.
#13 – The Legend of Zelda – Publisher(s): Nintendo, Phillips (see picture below) Developer(s): Nintendo EAD 3, Flagship (Capcom), Phillips Debut: February 21, 1986 (JP)

Quick Synopsis: Alienation, Anti-Progressive, Major Company Pride, Majorly Convoluted Fanfiction, Major Division of Fanbase, Minor Dimensional-Prejudice, Mainstream Ignorance, Fanboys/Fangirls, Minor Line of Rejection, Obnoxious Character Obsession, Major Review Riots.
This fanbase used to be really good. In fact it was great. I’d say it’s around the GameCube days is when this fanbase went to crap. Battle of different Links per game? Really? What a joke. It’s a miracle that the fanbase even got over the Zelda Timeline debate, thank you Hyrule Historia. An even bigger joke is constant whining with every new Zelda game, Nintendo tries to accommodate and we hear tons of moaning even to the point of hypocrisy to where the game that was perceived as bad is now good thanks to the whining of the new game. Then we get to the obsessions of the fanbase, jeez! The way people talk about Vaati, Ghirahim, any of these “hot” protagonists, it’s ridiculous. Obnoxious fanfiction written with terrible stories written about them, naughty fanart and it’s very annoying. Same thing being done with which girl Link should go with. The sexual or even just “cute little school girl/boy” crushes in the characters, just start to become sickening when flaunted around by more freaky members of this annoying fanbase. It also doesn’t help that a lot of members of the Zelda fanbase buy Nintendo consoles for Zelda solely. Thanks for helping out the Wii’s attachment rate, you’ve helped damage the Wii’s performance. As for the group pleading for a new Majora’s Mask remake on 3DS, it’s management is great, as it seems to be the case with many great Zelda fan groups. It’s members on the whole are a mess, Operation Moonfall has people who just sit around and hope and pray for what they want, instead of taking action like a certain other group *cough*OperationRainfall*cough, as the average Moonfall member may even dislike the idea of a new Zelda game in favor of the idea of a remake. This happens outside of Moonfall as well, some Zelda fans continuously want Ocarina of Time to be praised forever. Oh, I forgot to mention the Gamespot Review incident for Twilight Princess. That alone just proves the Zelda fanbase is very questionable. The only thing holding this farther down the list than the next games I will mention is that, The Legend of Zelda is in fact a great series and some pride in Zelda is deserved. It’s just a shame that this is the kind of fanbase a great series has to deal with.
#12 – Sonic The Hedgehog – Publisher(s): Sega, THQ Developer(s): Sonic Team, Dimps Debut: June 23rd, 1991 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Minor Company Pride, Convoluted Fanfiction (FURRY PR0NZ), Dimensional Prejudice, Division of Fanbase, Obnoxious Character Obsession, Minor Splash Damage
Oh now we’re at the Sonic fanbase. What a mess. Again, also at one point was a good fanbase, it went to crap around the Dreamcast days. Probably when the love interests and furry concept got stronger. This is where I feel bad because I love the Sonic series but it can give Sonic fans like me a bad name. Where do I even begin, we have the simple debate of 2D vs. 3D Sonic gaming, okay fair enough, but even that gets annoyingly out of hand. Now, I’m a lover of furry fandom here, but wow. They can barely keep it organized. I wouldn’t have a problem with some of the fanfiction if it just found a more consistent foundation with liking the romantic pairings Sonic Team hints at already. Not to mention all of the convoluted amounts of fan characters that get created by this ludicrous fanbase, ladies and gentlemen, we give you Cinos the Hedgehog! Clever right? IT’S SONIC SPELLED BACKWARDS!111111one111eleven11111 Now let’s draw porn and hentai of him like every other Sonic character. Oh it gets better! We also have arguments wether Sonic is better fat and short or tall and skinnier! It’s as important as arguing our national health care (not!). I’ll let this be known, if a Sonic fan thinks Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic Unleashed or Sonic and The Black Knight are good games, they are crazy, nuts or even sheltered from what are considered better Sonic games. Not to mention Sonic fans can’t be happy that Sonic Colors went back to its roots of having Sonic and Tails only or Sonic Generations having only Sonic as a playable character or the fact that they avoid heavy amounts of story telling that is most of the time convoluted. Listen those of you who fit that last description, shouldn’t it only matter if the gameplay is good and it’s stretched to a reasonable amount of length? This is probably the most improved of the fanbases on the list though, if it weren’t for the mature PC community making levels for Sonic Generations and the great Sonic fangames that are made, and the excellent more mature side of its furry community, it might have actually made it in the top 5 of this list. This is the most likely franchise to get off the list, but for now, the Sonic fanbase is still convoluted and ridiculous.
#11 – Super Smash Bros. – Publisher(s): Nintendo Developer(s): Project Sora, HAL Labs, Various Devs Debut: January 21, 1999 (JP)

Quick Synopsis: Company Pride, Convoluted Fanfiction, Convoluted Modding, Division of Fanbase, Minor Fanboy/Fangirlism, Interal Elitism, Splash Damage
The Super Smash Bros. fanbase is terrible. Sure you can argue there’s some Nintendo love here but it goes beyond that at many times. The main reason why they even make this list, they mod Super Smash Bros. Brawl to this Project M to make it more like Melee and actually enforce it in tourneys. That alone deserves to make this list. Not to mention you have whining and moaning about every single request for a character to be in or to be kicked out of the Smash Bros. roster. We have people whining that Master Chief from Halo isn’t in Brawl, are you serious? Do you not know there are things called…laws? Ya know copyright lawsuits up your rear end? Hopefully the fanbase can be better in the next installment but good gosh, this fanbase can make it hard to enjoy Super Smash Bros. I love the idea of all of your famous video game icons getting together and fighting it out in many stages from Nintendo or even other video game based stages. You know, Mario vs. Sonic? I wanna see that. It’s too bad that a lot of the fanbase can’t just leave it as a plain Nintendo love letter combining with Sonic The Hedgehog and Solid Snake. Maybe it will improve with Super Smash Bros. 4 on the Wii U. Credit is still deserved to you guys for one thing though: If it weren’t for you guys, about 5 Nintendo franchises off the top of my head wouldn’t have continued, been resurrected or localized. (F-Zero, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Nintendo Wars which followed Fire Emblem’s fame over here and Kid Icarus) Thank you for that. Also thank you for giving us every combination of rule 34 you can give us, pairing up every character with every other character on the roster.
#10 – Halo – Publisher(s): Microsoft Studios Developer(s): 343 Industries, Bungie Debut: November 15th, 2001 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Anti-Progressive, Major Company Pride, Minor Convoluted Fanfiction, Elitism, Major Fanboy/Fangirlism, Minor Internal Elitism, Mainstream Ignorance, Minor Remake Begging, Minor Review Riots
Halo: A series that is known for being a novelty for making FPS games popular on console games. It has put Microsoft, the Xbox and the Xbox 360 on the map. The fanbase has gotten worse and worse overtime. It’s now to the point where they would be mad if Halo had aim down sights or had proper advancements. There’s also a quite a bit of 12 year olds online who like to swear. That’s just great. I also have to hear about things as ridiculous as Halo inventing FPS. I have to hear about Halo being a “god” of FPS. It gets so bad to the point where players of Halo may not pay other things mind and if it weren’t for Call of Duty, I would say this could have possibly hurt the gaming market’s credibility. Halo is certainly the reason why we have Microsoft fanboys today, because Halo is the flagship franchise of Microsoft Studios, without a doubt. There’s not a lot I can go on here, but what is wrong with the fanbase, it’s very strong, strong enough to make the list. The community is at least at a good relationship with 343 Industries, which gives it a chance to slide off this list.
#9 – GoldenEye 007 - Publisher(s): Activision (current), EA, Nintendo Developer(s): Eurocom, EA Los Angelos, Rare Ltd. Debut: August 25th, 1997 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Majorly Anti-Progressive, Division of Fanbase, Major Line of Rejection.
This one peeves me off very much so. First of all, the one thing I can’t stand is how ignorant many GoldenEye fanboys/fangirls that can’t play newer FPS’s just because they use two sticks. It’s really stupid. My main gripe with this group of people is also how ignorant they are when it comes to the newer GoldenEye 007 for the Wii and then GoldenEye 007: Reloaded on PS3/360. Look, your stupid childhood attachments ruin your vision with this game. You’re not seeing the big picture here: GoldenEye is a Nintendo 64 FPS. FPS’s need to get better. They grow. You reject the newer GoldenEye because it’s too advanced and too much like a modern FPS? Um are you kidding me? Grow up, get with the times. Stop living in your little attachment to a 64-bit cartridge. You see this did innovate FPS’s on console, it did, it was a first for a lot of people. Christ though, GoldenEye fans will hate on how you can’t just shoot doors and they open, or how exploding cameras alert AI for the new game. The attachment to this game is just disgusting for the most part. The 2010 GoldenEye is a good game and that’s that, this new install base also pretty much sucks, as GoldenEye007: Reloaded’s install base is just weak. Nobody who hasn’t actually closely looked at this game, even gets the right idea. They either think the new one is a straight-up remake of the N64 game and go “YAY NOSTALGIA” or “EWW OLD FPS”. Either way it’s annoying. One last complaint is that the fanbase likes to whine about Pierce Brosnan not being in GoldenEye 007 (2010)/GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. Instead Daniel Craig is in it, but why is that a problem? Daniel Craig is the new James Bond, this the 10s, welcome to the 2010s, we need a grittier Bond for a game in the 2010s and he fits the grittier image of the new GoldenEye 007 extremely well. So it shouldn’t matter, Daniel Craig is the current bond and he is going to appear in every single 007 game since his first, why would this one be any different? Speaking of which, hey Bond fans, a new 007 game in 007 Legends is coming out, go give that a shot! Then again James Bond games are starting to appear on a schedule like Call of Duty. Point is GoldenEye 007 fanbase: Please grow up.
#8 – Pokemon – Publisher(s): Nintendo Developer(s): Game Freak Debut: February 27, 1996

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Majorly Anti-Progressive, Company Pride, Major Convoluted Fanfiction, Cultural Prejudice, Minor Division of Fanbase, Fanboyism/Fangirlism, Mainstream Ignorance, Minor Obnoxious Character Obsession, Minor Splash Damage.
I better shut my doors tight at night, all of the Pokedorks are gonna come get me. I’ll just distract them with… YOU! CRANK THAT PIKACHU! You! Crank that Pikachu! (Pikatroll pictured above) Okay they’re gone, phew, now to explain the reasoning to being on this list: The Pokemon fanbase is very childhood attached. If you were a 90′s kid like I am, you definetly were suckered in by this fad. Unfortunately, many who still likes Pokemon in 2012 have grown up into “manchildren” or “womanchildren”. With that being said, there’s a huge lack of maturity in this fanbase. Not to mention, this actually damages opportunities in the market, because usually for a Pokemon fan, this is the only RPG that they even play! Pokemon fans tend to set JRPG fans back 15 years and it’s pretty embarrassing. They’re extremely anti-progressive with the series, just look at some backlash to Pokemon Black and White, which is the refreshment Pokemon has needed for the past 15 years. For the first time in years I’m actually proud to call Pokemon a Japanese RPG. There’s depth in the Pokemon series now, you know, blurring of moralities which is what every JRPG should try to establish, because Black and White actually almost brought a tear to my eye with Team Plasma’s intent of saving Pokemon from slavery and forcing them to fight for entertainment as if it’s a sport. Sadly some members of the Pokemon fanbase can’t seem to handle basic complexity being the overly childish fanbase they are. I also forgot to mention being fans of a Nintendo franchise, of course this is the only reason they may buy a Nintendo console, that’s not shocking, thanks again for the Wii’s attachment rate, having fun with Pokemon Baffle Revolution or Pokepark Wii: Pikachu’s Misadventure? Great, not to mention, other poor franchises such as the Mystery Dungeon or Koei Tactical games like Nobunaga’s Ambition or Romance of the Three Kingdoms have to slap Pokemon on their games just to get any attention, thanks Pokemon fans, you sure have the best gaming integrity I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t catch your attention unless Pokemon is on it. It’s because of gamers like you that developers with real talent can’t prove it to the masses without slapping an icon on it. Speaking of which how many of you have ever played another game that isn’t Pokemon developed by GameFreak? Can you even name one? Anyways, have fun being trolled hoping for Pokemon Grey and now you have 2 more versions to play with Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. It’s unbelievable how much you let Nintendo get away with, even to the point of getting twice the money they deserve with 2 versions that are almost identical. Oh, no, that’s not a problem to you guys, being that you continuously will buy everything and anything that is Pokemon even if it’s a gimped Hey You Pikachu! or Pokemon for kids in an insane asylum, Pokemon Channel. The fanbase is full of sheep and it’s actually hazardous to gaming in general. Would it be cheap to reference the Chinpokomon episode of South Park? Never mind, too late.
#7 – Mario Kart – Publisher(s): Nintendo Developer(s): Nintendo EAD 1 Debut: August 27th, 1992

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Majorly Anti-Progressive, Major Company Pride, Fanboy/Fangirlism, Minor Splash Damage, Spin-Off Ignorance
You again Nintendo? Stop popping up here! Let me make one thing clear: It’s okay to have parties and play Mario Kart with your friends. That’s the good thing about Mario Kart, you have fun with your friends. Problem is this fanbase is already halfway full of “Wii-tards”. If this is a sole reason for buying a Nintendo console, you’re out of your mind. For one, I do not like how this game (Mario Kart Wii) can sell like 3x the amount of a regular 3D Mario game such as Super Mario Galaxy. Secondly, this fanbase is known for such a tedious amount of moaning and whining. You would think this fanbase would stay off the internet but no, they ‘re on it and they can ruin it. There are better behaved fans of the series but they may not only give themselves a bad name, they give Nintendo fans a bad name. This fanbase is shallow like the gameplay, has no depth, like the gameplay. This fanbase is getting better, the new Mario Kart 7 seems to have weeded some problems out but it’s not getting rid of pounding into the ears of many that Mario Kart is what Nintendo should focus on. Oh and, thanks to you guys again for helping out the Wii’s attachment rate. (Not) By the way, can you guys be a bit more vocal about getting rid of the Blue Shell? The Blue Shell is what makes people laugh at you guys. Mario Kart 7′s fans might help this fanbase get lower on the list.
#6 – Call of Duty – Publisher(s): Activision Developer(s): Infinity Ward, Treyarch Debut: October 29, 2003 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Anti-Progressive, Minor Company Pride, Minor Division of Fanbase, Major Internal Elitism, Major Fanboyism/Fangirlism, Major Mainstream Ignorance, Major Splash Damage
You can’t go online without hearing a 12-year-old curse in your ear, do I have to say more about much this fanbase blows? They already buy a COD every year and don’t even bother to play the single player so like 50% of the game is ignored by majority of the fanbase. That’s pathetic. It’s also just as dangerous to the market as Pokemon is, except, with an even more immature fanbase. Not much to really go on here. It’s a shame because this also used to be a good fanbase with the original World War II trilogy, but as soon as Modern Warfare came into the picture, okay yes, Call of Duty 4 is one of the best FPS’s of all time. I will say that right now. Sadly, it also attracted an immature ignorant fanbase. I bet Call of Duty: Black Ops II will confuse the hell out of the fanbase. Treyarch out doing Infinity Ward? Pfft, as if. (It will happen, I guarantee it!)
#5 – Mario Party – Publisher(s): Nintendo Developer(s): Nd Cube (current), Hudson Debut: December 14, 1998 (JP)
Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Majorly Anti-Progressive, Major Company Pride, Major Fanboyism/Fangirlism, Major Mainstream Ignorance, Major Spin-off Ignorance
Nintendo, stop stalking this list! Oh look, Mario Party 8 didn’t even have widescreen, no wonder it’s picture is made of fail and can’t even get a high quality size. I actually had to go back and re-edit my own material for this one because I actually almost broke Game Crunch’s ethical standards of keeping it PG. That’s probably how much I wasn’t happy. It looks like in this mini-game you do what majority of Mario Party fans like doing, you have parties where you shake the Wiimote in a suggestive manner, because that’s pretty much what you do in this mini-game. Whoever shakes it the best and gets the biggest “explosion” wins. The only reason this fanbase isn’t as high as the others on the list is because thankfully they stay off the internet and keep their love of doing suggestive things to their Wii Remotes to themselves. For the most part that is. I’ll admit this was more of the better reasons to buy an N64 back in the day. Get a hold of yourselves though guys. A lot of Mario Party fans will trump this as a reason to love Nintendo to the point where it’s annoying. This list is getting to the point where I scream into a pillow from this fanbase from this point forward. This fanbase gets to the point where they even think this series is more important than traditional Mario epics, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, and the Super Mario Galaxy twins. Also doesn’t step forward about the fact of it having no online? Um, okay. Geez, I guess this is why you don’t see them online because they’re so sheltered! Next.
#4 – World of Warcraft – Publisher(s): Blizzard Entertainment Developer(s): Blizzard Entertainment Debut: November 23rd, 2004 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Minor Company Pride, Elitism, Major Fanboy/Fangirlism, Internal Elitism, Major Mainstream Ignorance, Major Spin-Off Ignorance, Splash Damage.
Do you know that Blizzard Entertainment had to put parental lock settings on this game for a reason? It’s not just for the little kiddies that play this game. It’s for adults (manchildren) who play this game having to put parental locks on themselves for this game. This game has actually been blamed for crimes, neglect and has actually caused break-ups and even divorces. People claim that video games might even have to be illegal substances or at least MMO’s. When this game debuted, I bet for every 100 World of Warcraft players you met, only 1 even has an idea the original Warcraft trilogy. I mean wow, talk about the people you meet on here, these are the people you meet who like spend their lives drained in this one game. Do you think Leeroy Jenkins is still here? I doubt he’s in World of Warcraft anymore. Maybe you guys should scream something random and put it on YouTube and maybe you’ll find a life beyond World of Warcraft.
#3 – Runescape – Publisher(s): Jagex Games Studio Developer(s): Jagex Games Studio Debut: January 4th, 2001 (NA)

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Elitism, Major Fanboy/Fangirlism, Internal Elitism, Major Mainstream Ignorance, Splash Damage.
Copy Pasta World of Warcraft, remove any original non-MMO fans from description, decrease fanbase average IQ by %25.
#2 – Kingdom Hearts – Publisher(s): Square Enix Developer(s): Square Enix, Jupiter Debut: March 28, 2002 (JP)

Quick Synopsis: Minor Alienation, Major Company Pride, Majorly Convoluted Fanfiction, Majorly Convoluted Fangames, Cultural Prejudice, Major Division of Fanbase, Major Fanboy/Fangirlism, Minor Mainstream Ignorance, Minor Hipster Ignorance, Major Obnoxious Character Obsession, Minor Remake Begging, Major Major Major Major Major Splash Damage.
Sigh, I love Kingdom Hearts as well as Kingdom Hearts II on the Playstation 2. Unfortunately, I can almost never find another Kingdom Hearts lover that I don’t want to punch in the face. One of the reasons, we’ll get it out-of-the-way, obviously from the picture above, we have to deal with stuff like THAT. You know, at least the Sonic fanbase, as much of the stuff they draw, they know about the characters, they know the games. Kingdom Hearts fans? You can forget it, this is one franchise where the porn is more important than the game. It’s so bad, most Kingdom Hearts players can’t even just simply enjoy Kingdom Hearts as a great Action Japanese Role-Playing Game, they have to come up with these convoluted fanfiction stories or convoluted fanfiction games about Organization XIII and individual members of them, obsessing over how “hot” they are, you know this is basically where the modern day Square Enix fanbase has turned into trash. The sad part is, I’d rather talk to the average person who only bought these games because Disney characters are in them rather than the average person who claims to be raving hardcore Kingdom Hearts fans, that is how bad it is. At least they can show their love for Disney and leave it at that. I was actually thinking the Disney fans of this game would be worse than the Square Enix side of the fanbase, but nope, that’s actually the better side of it. This fanbase can ruin your love for Kingdom Hearts in a heartbeat and they do major splash damage. It’s just beyond bad, you’ve now turned the Kingdom Hearts series into something known to be full of convoluted fanfiction junk. Did you know that Kingdom Hearts is the most popular thing to write about in FanFiction.net? No seriously, go check it out at http://www.fanfiction.net/game/# then sort by popularity. It has over 60,000 stories of fanfiction, beating the Pokemon series at 2nd place, it also has more stories than all of the Final Fantasy games put together. That is amazing. Warning though, do not click it, if you dare to read your eyeballs will burn out and your brain will melt through the holes of where your eyes used to be and foam will come out of your mouth, while you are having a seizure on the floor, when the paramedics find your body, they will also diagnose that you died of cancer. No, really though, spare yourself of the garbage. If there’s any sane Kingdom Hearts fans out there, please just enjoy Kingdom Hearts, spare yourself and stay off forums, chatrooms and fanfiction. To all of you insane Kingdom Hearts fans (fakers mostly) who obsess over Roxas or like any Organization XIII member or your lust for Riku and Sora or both of them hooking up without even knowing who they actually are, please stop obnoxiously pushing your fetishes down people’s throats. Kingdom Hearts is an Action RPG by Square Enix, pioneers of the Japanese RPG genre (at least at one point), nothing more, nothing less.
And the number one worst fanbase ever is…
#1 – Final Fantasy VII – Publisher(s): Square Enix , Sony Computer Entertainment Developer(s): Square Enix Debut: January 31st, 1997

Quick Synopsis: Major Alienation, Majorly Anti-Progressive, Major Company Pride, Major Convoluted Fanfiction, Cultural Prejudice, Dimensional Prejudice, Division of Fanbase (still?), Major Fanboyism/Fangirlism, Major Line of Rejection, Major Mainstream Ignorance, Major Obnoxious Character Obsession, Major Remake Begging, Major Splash Damage.
You right now are asking “what? I thought Final Fantasy was already on this list.”. Yes that it is, however, the Final Fantasy VII section of the fanbase has made themselves look so bad, that it gets its own spot on this list, it would be an insult to group the rest of the Final Fantasy fanbase with this. The fanbase is so bad, they can’t even love other Final Fantasy games let alone other Japanese RPGs. Majority of them won’t even go past the original Playstation in terms of gaming. Let’s still be clear though and give credit where credit is due: Final Fantasy VII changed the gaming market forever and virtually every RPG there after this has Final Fantasy VII to thank. This game is the killer app of the Playstation and put it on the map. Nintendo should have been kicking themselves for not going to CD’s and missing out on this game. It was hard choosing between this or Kingdom Hearts as the worst fanbase, but then the thought occured: “Hey at least the Kingdom Hearts fanbase tends to like all Kingdom Hearts games”. Everything that is wrong with the Kingdom Hearts fanbase is wrong with this one plus the fact that they alienate other games in its own series. Final Fantasy VII went off to spawn quite a few games in its universe such as Dirge of Ciberus (that game doesn’t exist) and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy which is actually one of the best Action RPGs of the PSP— in fact, if you don’t own a Playstation Portable, there’s your system seller right there. Unfortunately, you may have to keep whatever you enjoy of the game to yourself if you’re dealing with the Final Fantasy VII fanbase as it can make you end up hating Final Fantasy VII– in fact now Final Fantasy VII is a cool thing to hate thanks to the annoying fanbase. Even Crisis Core gets hate from the Final Fantasy VII fanbase at times which is terrible. This is the only game where the fans can overly praise a game so much that you can hate it. What an accomplishment. We haven’t even dug into the deep dark stuff yet, we forgot all of the obsessions over Cloud Strife and Sephiroth. Sephiroth is a god of gaming, nuff said right? Can we hear more dreams about Cloud Strife and Sephiroth making love from the crazier fans? No no no, let’s hear about making the story even more cliché in fanfictions by making Sephiroth go: “Cloud I am your Father!”. Pull a Star Wars! I honestly wish this fanbase were more like the Final Fantasy VI fanbase, at least they know that Final Fantasy VI is a juggernaut of Japanese RPG’s without ruining other people’s love of it. What makes this the worst fanbase in current gaming right now, is the last 14 games on this list have a good percentage of the fanbase that moves on to each new game in the series. Deep down inside, common JRPG fans love Final Fantasy VII; Final Fantasy VII fans don’t love JRPGs.

Most of these games are awsome and these fans are ither stupit or hate these games :
I really didnt understand how you listed these franchises. I dont understand why certain franchises are so high on the list compared to others. Why for example, is Kingdom Hearts #2 when all you say is that there is a lot of fanfiction, and that some fans like the Disney Characters. I also have absolutely no idea why mario party is #5. I didnt even know that that series had much of a fanbase!
Gosh. You seem to have forgotten Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress fans. Never have so many drooled over so little.
I looked at the list of criteria and could only think of at least for minecraft can't speak for dwarf fortress, is possibly hipster ignorance. Though it probably can't be called that as last I heard minecraft beat cod on xbox live last week or so. I stopped playing that game a while ago but the people who played ranged from the hardcore to the extreme casual.
I like the bit where he backs up words with facts.
Good points for some of these, but this is terribly written. Spoiled rotten fans are nothing new, and trying to push them out into the limelight through very poor humor and name-calling doesn’t make you seem very mature, either. If you had some intelligent counterpoints of how these groups could be civilized, we could then talk. Otherwise, all that you have here is a long page that does nothing but contribute to the problems as you, yourself sound like you are writing from a fanbase “manchild” space as well.
I'll vouch for the Kingdom Hearts fanbase. It's wrought with fangirls. Once at an anime convention, I passed a group of them huddled around a TV playing a Kingdom Hearts AMV set to Panic! at the Disco. They were all singing along… with their voices clearly full of emotion. It made me cringe to my core and it's scarred me ever since. Almost every female I've seen wearing a Kingdom Hearts shirt has major afflictions of fangirlism, and have the tendency to wear trip pants with suspenders.
As an admin from a popular Zelda site, I will also vouch for them. The amount of people talking about Ocarina of Time remakes (despite its already numerous remakes) and Twilight Princess is astounding. Once I had to organize all the threads on our boards, and reading all the TP related threads' titles made me feel more stupid. People focus way too much on popular games like OoT and TP. Theorists aren't bad people, they're just analysts who enjoy having in-depth discussion. You wouldn't bash a physics major for trying to unlock the implied secrets of the universe. It's kind of like that, only for a fictional world. I don't think you've actually ever seen a timeline debate. There is an internal elitism there, (because I do get pissed off when Zelda fans are /blatantly ignorant/ about what they claim to be interested in) but it's definitely not worse than the Final Fantasy fanbase.
SSB's fanbase tends to be annoyed because none of the SSB games have been for hard drive console. For every other fighting game, patches and updates have helped keep them balanced, while SSB players have to deal with horribly broken characters and mechanics. (Chain grabbing and Meta Knight) So mods are necessary for tournaments to make characters more balanced. Honestly. Don't believe me? Then you haven't played the game enough. I don't understand why modding games makes the fanbase bad. If anything it says more about the game than anything, unless it's modding for characters, in which case yeah, it gets kind of stupid.
Sonic fans, for some reason or another, tend to have similar personalities and appearances? It's weird, and I see it a lot. Like, Sonic fanboys are just so weirdly… similar. Like, if there were a Sonic fanboy in a crowd of people, CALL ME CRAZY, but I am pretty sure I could point him out. Maybe it's the Sonic shirt or the mildly autistic look to him, but I could point him out in a heartbeat. I wouldn't call Sonic a major furry staple. More like a precursor for people who like to jack off to animal people but don't know what furryism is.
Never knew Mario Kart/Mario Party had a fanbase. Sounds shaky to me at best.
Overall yeah, these entries sound about right, but you could do with less name calling, unnecessary censorship (p*rn just looks cheesy), troll faces, and some more examples that are relevant. Number of fan fictions don't really say much about a fan base, other than that they like writing fan fiction. I mean… so what? What if all the fan fictions are satirical analyses of the very thing you're writing about? Who cares if they're about pairings? Some pairings sound pretty accurate. Why would I be disgusted about a yaoi pairing that looks about right? I'm not into yaoi, but sometimes things kind of click between characters. It's when the writers become obsessed with the pairing and starts writing them with ridiculous self-inserts and blatantly stupid scenarios, and even then, you're overreacting. No one's going to vomit over some butt lovin'. Maybe cringe a little at how much of a Mary Sue everyone is, and how many times a person's name is prefixed or suffixed with the words "dark", "flame", "chaos", "xX Xx", "ultimate", "lover", "fan", etc. If you throw up reading fan fiction, you clearly haven't been around the internet long enough.
Final Fantasy XIII is an amazing game and this is a horrible list.
Valid points but this is horribly written, I mean horrible.
And you really believe someone is being honest when they say Halo invented FPS?
You forgot to point out that the Call of Duty fanbase seems to enjoy paying $60 for the same game over and over and over again.
You forgot the Megaman and Castlevania fanbase which in my opinion is worse than Kingdom Heart, Mario Party, and Mario Kart's fanbase.
this list is crap
the biggest problem with the list is that he just points out one thing about each fanbase, and drives it home with repeated accusation, its really just a flame post, any individual discrepancy in that list is nothing for the actual problems with gaming culture as a whole-
Halo does unfortunately deserve a spot on the list, as does call of duty, but NOT because they are bad games, NO, but because of the amount of cyber bullying, and attacks against people personally that downright spiral downwards and make ALL of us look bad; your list is just things you find annoying and I can understand that. but please, don't complain about peoples own spending habits, or they're "fanfiction" habits, obviously don't go onto sites like those
also your kingdom hearts picture is actually rather on in scene, a rather impressive drawing none the less. Kingdom Hearts two, Sora did cry when he and Rku got reunited, should have had a picture of them kissing if you wanna go full blown douche over it.
wow, how didn't Street Fighter make it on here? As a matter of fact, no figthing game franchise made it. This list was enjoyable, but it was highly flawed. First of all, it is clear you hate Nintendo, which hurts your credibility. Mario Party is on the list? What, that game isn't taken seriously. If you really dislike Nintendo, leave it there.
Also, you often attacked a franchise and didn't talk about the real issue. As a KH fanboy, I agree KH deserves to be here, but not #2. COD has a way worse fanbase. Also, the KH fanbase has flaws way worse than fanfiction and character addiction. The majority of them refuse to accept that the franchise is being being milked to death with poorly written games. The series is a convoluted mess, but a majority of them wont accept it.
actually, that's the first thing any KH fan complains about. The writing is usually not the greatest(worst case scenario is BBS or KH2) and everyone complains about how the series is being milked by square. There is a reason for that, though, and it's that the KH2 development team is stuck with vs XIII and square wont cancel it. And Nomura wont go with anyone else for KH3.
I think Call of Duty and Sonic need to be higher on this list. Also, is Mario Party actually taken serious enough? I won't really say it has a strong fan base, but more of, people who just enjoy it. Finally, like many others said, you didn't support your points with reasons.
I dont think you've ever been on Kingdom Hearts Insider, have you? I dont hesitate to ciriticize the series(nor any other fan, really, but without bashing or fanboyism), but on that site the discussions there are mature and nobody gets angry, the series itself is not all that bad(could definitely use improvements, but I dont mind so much), just simply convoluted-but easier to stomache after playing all the "side" games and actually invites interesting speculation without fanfiction, and I'm a major fan of Disney's animated movies so I know a thing or two about quality. the gameplay is still good, and everything is being tied together. Final Fantasy fans are way more immature. No matter what site, you're more likely to find Final fantasy fans sending death threats to each other than KH fans.
with all due respect, that is my one criticism of this list.
I think the person does hate video games period. A real Nintendo hater.I can see why alot of this stuff is on list, but how come DBZ isn't on the list? I think they have more games than even Mario. If anything it seems to be crammed down everyone's throat with every scenrio of the same thing they make besides with the creativeity of it. Not to mention all the merchandise and Saiyan stuff. It gets really annoying and being just as bad as spongbob. Not to mention they milk the series by having blue ray with the same stuff except clearer picture and other versions. But I am not going to judge them. Some people also seem to fantazie them as powerful as every anime character.
fanfiction, net is a place where writers and viewers go for imagination. It doesn't matter if there are couples or not. The fact is most games, show etc. ignore certain characters that people like so they expand on it. There is nothing wrong with it. I think it is good for some people to read upon things that didn't happen in the game. There are alos things hinted in other countries that will never come to others inside stories. Either way there are options to click on what you want to look at without going to yaoi stuff.
Now speaking as an Kingdom Hearts fan I can understand where you are coming from, but it doesn't necessary mean that all those fans are obsessed. I am not obesessed, and I like the disney characters and the organization. But I am not obessesed with them. I think they deserve a villiain story and I always thought of them as mysterious and interesting character more than Sora and company. There are others characters in that series that get ignored so people create something to make them feel wanted. I don't see a problem with that. There is also a reason that people ignore other characters on purpose and leave them out of their fan fiction. People will have their likes and dislikes. It just the ways things are. If no one likes it they can leave. No one is forcing people to read their stuff. I also like Kingdom Hearts Insider and there are a bunch of mature people on there that give out good points when it comes to the series.
Actually I'm going to point out that, I'm not a Nintendo hater and I love video games.
Halo didn't invent FPS, DOOM did. Well actually, Wolfenstein did but DOOM set the FPS genre on the map.
I see a lot of butthurt fanboys lol. Seriously I totally agree with the list, especially #1. I've been flamed a lot for constructively criticizing FF7 on a non FF7 board.
Honestly , This List Is Horrible , How Is Kingdom Hearts #2 , and its clear you just hate nintendo , as 1/2 of the games are nintendo games. CoD is the worst fanbase , young kids ,no creativity , and they buy the same game just continuously , and they ignore storymode because it is boring , just telling you everything to do..
He is a Nintentroll. I can think of much, much worse.
Megaman: Company Pride, Convulted Fanfiction, Major Dimensional Predjudice (to name a few)
Devil May Cry: Sonic fanbase but worse.
Battlefield: Major Major CoD Alienation, Company Pride, Minor Review Riot, Elitism (again to name a few).
While you did label some points, I can't see why some Fanbases are lower than others (Sonic not being in the top 3 is more or less blasphemy) and it is, like others have stated, horribly written.
Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus should be on honorary mentions!
Kingdom heart fanboy base worse than halo? u cannot be serious… every time I read scientific fantasy, the halo fanboys would appear from nowhere and yell about they should have spartan created already bla bla bla.
I am a huge fan of kingdom hearts (still waiting of kh3 lol), but what you mentioned about some of the fans of the series is absolutely correct.
Some i can agree with, but the number one spot makes me think your just another disgruntled FF6 fan that wishes that game got as much attention as FF7 does. The FF7 fanbase is almost silent at this point compared to the amount of haters that it seems to have now.
You shouldn't generalize….
good list. However, I personally think that the pokemon gen 1 fanbase is worse than the final fantasy fanbase. Because while r/b/y was a good start, there were so many glitches, and the mechanics weren't good for competitive battling (hyper beam doesn't recharge after every KO… BROKEN!!!). Also, Project M is very good. It's not trying to be melee+, it's trying to be a successor to the smash bros series. It just happens to use a melee environment because it is the best for competition. Disregarding melee, all of the characters feel almost perfectly balanced, and each character is very unique.
I am kinda getting sick of ghirahim. He is just a villain. So what if he has a really long tounge,it does not mean you write fan-fics about said tounge!
